Window Tint Film Options
Ceramic Window Tint โ Premium Choice
Ceramic tint is the gold standard in window film technology. It uses nano-ceramic particles to block heat and UV rays without relying on metals or dyes. The result is exceptional heat rejection (up to 60โ80%), crystal-clear visibility, zero signal interference with GPS, Bluetooth, or cell reception, and a color-stable finish that won't fade or turn purple over time.
Ceramic tint is our most popular option for customers who want the best performance and longest lifespan. It's more expensive than dyed or carbon options, but the superior heat rejection and clarity make it worth the investment โ especially in North Carolina where summer temperatures regularly push into the upper 90s.
Carbon Window Tint โ Great Value
Carbon tint offers excellent performance at a mid-range price point. It uses carbon particles embedded in the film to block infrared heat and UV rays. Carbon tint has a distinctive matte-black finish that many customers prefer for its clean, modern look. It won't fade to purple like dyed films, and it provides solid heat rejection โ typically around 40โ50%.
If you want performance that's noticeably better than basic tint without the premium price of ceramic, carbon is an excellent choice. It's durable, looks great, and provides real-world heat and UV protection that you'll notice every time you get in your car.
Dyed Window Tint โ Budget-Friendly
Dyed tint is the most affordable option and is primarily chosen for aesthetics and privacy. It gives your windows a dark, uniform appearance at the lowest price point. While dyed films do block some UV rays and reduce glare, they don't reject heat nearly as effectively as carbon or ceramic options.
Dyed tint can fade over time, especially with heavy sun exposure. For Charlotte's climate, we typically recommend upgrading to at least carbon tint for meaningful heat rejection โ but dyed tint is a solid choice if your main goal is privacy and appearance on a budget.

North Carolina Window Tint Laws
North Carolina has specific laws about how dark your window tint can be. Staying legal matters โ illegal tint can result in fines and failed inspections. Here's what NC law allows:
- Front side windows โ must allow at least 35% of light through (35% VLT)
- Rear side windows โ any darkness is permitted
- Rear window โ any darkness is permitted
- Windshield โ non-reflective tint is allowed on the top of the windshield above the AS-1 line (manufacturer's line)
- Reflectivity โ front and rear windows must not be more than 20% reflective
At Prime's, we install tint that complies with NC regulations so you don't have to worry about getting pulled over or failing inspection. We'll explain the legal limits and help you choose the darkest legal option for your front windows while going as dark as you want on the rear. Many customers choose 35% on the fronts and 5% (limo tint) or 15% on the rear for maximum privacy.
Benefits of Window Tinting
- UV protection โ premium tint films block up to 99% of harmful UV rays. This protects your skin from sun damage during long drives and prevents your dashboard, seats, and trim from fading and cracking over time.
- Heat rejection โ ceramic and carbon films significantly reduce the amount of heat entering your vehicle. Your cabin stays cooler, your AC works less, and you use less fuel. In Charlotte's brutal summers, this is a game-changer.
- Glare reduction โ reduce eye strain from direct sunlight and headlight glare at night. Tint makes driving more comfortable and safer, especially during sunrise and sunset commutes on I-77 and I-85.
- Privacy & security โ darker rear windows make it harder for people to see inside your vehicle. This protects your belongings from prying eyes and gives you a greater sense of privacy.
- Interior protection โ UV rays and heat are the enemies of your vehicle's interior. Tint prevents leather from cracking, dashboards from fading, and plastics from warping. Your interior looks newer for longer.
- Shatter resistance โ window film holds glass together if it breaks, reducing the risk of flying glass shards in an accident. It's a safety feature most people don't think about.
- Improved aesthetics โ let's be honest โ tinted windows just look better. They give any vehicle a cleaner, more finished appearance.
Our Window Tinting Process
1. Vehicle inspection โ we examine your windows for any existing damage, debris, or old tint that needs removal.
2. Old tint removal (if needed) โ we carefully remove any existing tint and clean all adhesive residue from the glass.
3. Window cleaning โ every window is meticulously cleaned inside and out to remove dust, oils, and contaminants that could cause bubbles.
4. Computer-cut film โ we use a plotter to cut the film to your vehicle's exact window specifications. No hand-cutting on your glass.
5. Film application โ the tint is applied using a slip solution and squeegeed to remove all air and water. Edges are sealed and tucked for a clean finish.
6. Inspection & curing โ we inspect every window for imperfections. The film needs 2โ4 days to fully cure โ small water bubbles during this period are normal and will disappear on their own.
Tint Aftercare Tips
- Wait to roll down windows โ keep your windows up for at least 3โ4 days after installation to let the film cure and adhere properly.
- Don't clean for a week โ avoid cleaning the interior side of your tinted windows for 7 days.
- Use the right cleaner โ never use ammonia-based cleaners (like Windex) on tinted windows. Use a tint-safe glass cleaner or simply warm water with a microfiber cloth.
- Small bubbles are normal โ during the curing period, you may see tiny water bubbles. They'll disappear on their own within 1โ2 weeks.
